Our working group develops various novel experimental methods how to use scanning electron microscopy ("STM") to position, characterize and manipulate single molecules on surfaces in a controllable way. In addition to the electronic characterization with STM, we study the light emitted from the tunnel junction. This technique, called STM-induced luminescence allows to investigate the electron-to-photon conversion on the nanoscale. Our research is motivated by the application perspective of future molecular electronic devices and the necessity to understand the underlying physics.
We have long standing collaborations with synthetic chemistry groups for tailor-made molecules and theory for DFT calculations.
We always welcome applications for Bachelor, Master and PhD positions.
